In a new book based on interviews with Sophie Lhuillier, Susan George talks about her life, her political formation and her time with the Transnational Institute. In A conversation with Susan George, the president of the Transnational Institute recounts her personal journey to becoming a leading figure in the alter-globalization movement.
“I devoted my work to studying the functioning of power and shared the results of my research with a wider audience through my books."
Susan George has been interested in global injustices for fifty years. A naturalized French-American, she tells us how her political consciousness was awakened by the horror of the Vietnam War and how, since then, she has been committed to fighting abuses of power: first by studying the issue of hunger in the world, then the problems of state debt and the power of transnational corporations.
Early on, since 1989, she has also supported the environmental cause. As the honorary president of ATTAC and the Transnational Institute, this leading figure in the alter-globalization movement is a grandmother to four grandchildren.
